"No matter who you are, or where
you are on life’s journey, you are ALWAYS welcome here!"
The First Parish Federated Church is affiliated with the United
Church of Christ & the United Methodist Church. We are a
congregation on the move in visionary, inspired ministry. We
walk out "in the field" with Jesus Christ, seeking opportunities to
serve rather than be served. We look to tomorrow instead of
yesterday. We focus on discerning God’s call and responding to
his will for the living of this new day, not those good ol’ days.
Our worshipers come from Maine and New Hampshire. Almost every
week, we welcome new visitors of all ages! Worship services
are lively with modern and traditional music, a talented and
personable choir and Minister of Music, and a family friendly
environment. The preaching is biblically-based, while relevant
to daily life issues.
We hold our children and youth in high esteem, and many volunteers
and the pastor are diligent about nature, safety and education of
young people. Junior and Senior high youth groups are active in missions and fellowship.
Our Pastor
Reverend Donna Lee Muise began pastoring First Parish
Federated Church in August 1997.
She was born and raised in Gloucester, MA, where her family still
resides. After a 12-year career with Houghton Mifflin Company
in Boston while earning a Bachelor's Degree in English from Salem
State College, Rev Donna attended Andover Newton Theological School,
graduating cum laude in 1994 with a Master of Divinity degree.
A United Church of Christ Minister, Rev Donna was ordained on March
12, 1995 at Second Congregational Church of West Boxford, MA, and
served two years as assistant Minister of Christian
Education before being called to South Berwick, Maine.
Our History
There are very few municipalities, societies, schools or churches in
the United States that can trace their origins back 300 years.
The First Parish Federated Church of South Berwick belongs in that
limited classification. The written record of the founding of
this church on June 4, 1702 is preserved in the church archives.
These records contain fairly complete histories of the
Congregational Church and the Methodist Church, the two religious
societies which joined in 1929 to form the present day Federated
Church.
